About the CHOOSE Act

The CHOOSE Act (Creating Hope and Opportunity for Our Students' Education) is a transformative initiative designed to provide families with greater control over their children’s education through Education Savings Accounts (ESAs). These accounts empower parents to allocate funds toward approved educational expenses, creating flexibility and personalized learning opportunities tailored to each student's needs.

How the CHOOSE Act Works

Through the CHOOSE Act, eligible families can receive up to $7,000 annually per student in an ESA to cover qualifying educational expenses. These funds are managed securely through ClassWallet, ensuring transparency and ease of use. Families have the freedom to allocate funds for a wide range of educational services and materials.

Qualifying Expenses

The following expenses are eligible for coverage under the CHOOSE Act:

  • Tuition for accredited private schools
  • Enrollment and registration fees
  • Technology fees, including school-issued devices (e.g., laptops, tablets, and software)
  • Textbooks and instructional materials
  • Private tutoring or after-school education programs
  • Curricula and supplemental educational resources
  • Special education services for students with disabilities
  • Computers (up to $1,200 every two years)
  • Technological aids (up to $500 annually for assistive devices)

Non-Eligible Expenses: Certain costs, such as athletic fees, food, uniforms, and transportation, are not covered by ESA funds. Parents should review the full list of qualifying expenses to plan accordingly.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the CHOOSE Act, families must meet specific criteria, including:

  • Verification of income, residency, and guardianship
  • For priority applicants: documentation proving the student has special needs or the parent is an active-duty service member

Once eligibility is established, families can apply for an ESA through the official ClassWallet platform.
